England, XII century. Despite the war and terrible poverty, in a small town the construction of a cathedral begins to give people security and livelihood. In the struggle and adversity, lives and fates are dramatically intertwined. The monk Philip becomes the prince of the small Kingsbridge monastery. At the same time, somewhere in the forest, there lives a boy named Jack with his hermit mother. He becomes a student of a bricklayer and gradually grows into a gifted master builder. Together with Alienai, a dishonored count's daughter, Jack and Philip begin to erect one of the greatest cathedrals in the history of England.
